Nametag Safety:
Weather or not your wearing a nametag, you always need to be aware of our surroundings and maintain our personal space. Personal space is the distance that feels comfortable between you and another in any given situation. If you feel your space is being compromised, move away from the person and loudly
state "please get out of my space," if the person does not back away,
immediately, and as loudly as you can yell "help, get away from me,
someone call 911," and if possible call 911. The best way to protect yourself is to target harden yourself. Here are some example of target hardening: When possible, ask someone to keep and eye out for you if your leaving say your office and walking to you car; never walk wearing ipod earbuds or talk on your cell phone as it says "I'm not really paying attention." If it's late at night and say your returned from the movies or a bar, take a cab, and ask the driver to wait until your inside your place. What about children, nametags, and strangers? If you a parent the best thing you can do to protect you child is to never let them go unsupervised. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) says to not teach "Stranger Danger." They say children do not have the same understanding of "strangers" as adults; the concept is difficult for them to grasp. And, based on what we know about those who harm children, people known to children and/or their families actually present greater danger to children than do "strangers."
